Mr. Awira Phakmat, Director of the Office of Environmental and Pollution Control 1, Chiang Mai, revealed to Thai PBS Northern Region the results of random inspections of the Kok River after receiving complaints that the river was murky and that people who went swimming had itchy rashes. Samples were collected on March 19 and found that the water was 8-9 times murkyer than normal. The latest analysis results also found arsenic, a dangerous toxic substance, more than double the standard value in the Kok River, which is normally 0.01 milligrams per liter. Samples collected at Ban Kaeng Tum, Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai Province, the first point where the Kok River flows into Thailand, found arsenic levels as high as 0.026 milligrams per liter.
