Today (April 4, 2025) at 09.01 a.m. local time in South Korea, the South Korean Constitutional Court began reading the verdict in the impeachment case of President Yoon Suk-yeol. The 8 judges, led by Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyun-bae, voted unanimously to remove Yoon from office after a long-drawn-out trial since the National Assembly voted to impeach him on December 14, 2024 with a vote of 204 to 85.
The verdict effectively ends Yoon's presidency and is the second time in history that a South Korean president has been removed by a court. Yoon's legal team reportedly said on Monday (April 3) that he would not be present in person to hear the verdict.
